I turned the TV on this morning and heard a bit of an excerpt from "The View". They were talking about all the help that other countries require and need from us Americans. My question is and has always been "Why do we always help other people before we help ourselves" I don't disagree that we should be giving money and foreign aid to countries in need but why don't we help the person next to us on the street begging for change? Why are the Hollywood celebrities always giving millions of dollars to children in Africa? We have starving children here too. Why not help ourselves while we are helping others? It irritates me that when 911 happened almost no foreign countries came to our aid. The NYC firefighters and police officers worked day and night to clean up the rubble and debri. That is a true sign of us helping ourselves. However, it seems we still spend more money nationally to help other countries. Haiti, Africa etc. The economy is at the highest unemployment rate in years and we still fund other countries programs before we fund our own. Think about it. If our celebrities and millionaires gave the starving people of the US as much as they give foreign countries, maybe we would not have as much economic problems.
This post is not meant to offend anyone or say that I don't think we should help other people in need but I do believe strongly that we need the help as well.
